The story of Gray Painting starts long before the business was established. In the early 1900s, not long after Oklahoma gained statehood, William Carroll Emberton worked as a wallpaper hanger and painter. Jobs were scarce back then, but William was determined—he’d hop freight trains to nearby cities just to ensure he’d find work so that he could support his family. That same grit and work ethic was passed down through generations: from William to his son, Bill; to Bill’s son-in-law, Jim Gray; and ultimately to Jim’s son, Jason. Originally founded by Jim Gray in Oklahoma City in 1971, Gray Painting made its home in Loveland, Ohio, in 2010. Over a century after William first picked up a brush, the company still holds tight to the values he started with: showing up, working hard, and doing right by its clients.
